Up one level

UKWCT Beenham - 18th December 2005

A bit of maintenance to start off with. Daren and I needed to go into Kodiak and Kenai's enclosure to remove a branch from the fence... It had come down from an old tree on the perimeter. No damage had been done to the fence (they are very strong) but it needed moving off.

Once we had done that, Toni cleaned the window to the observation room, we also got some of the ice from the trough and stacked it up for them to play with.

Finally we scattered some hot dogs around so that they could have a bit of a hunt after having to stay late in their sleeping area.

Hunt the hotdog, mashed into the ball... Rolling on ice.
Kodiak is not quite so sure of what to do with the ball...

Moving the old couple up to the top has been great for them. They have a change of terrain, it is more undulating and they have a wooded area at the edge of the enclosure. Also they are more active. As people are moving around more often and are move visible to the pair they will follow them around and come to investigate what is happening.

Kodiak is looking in great health and there is very little sign of him being stiff, especially the way he bounces around when you come to feed them in the evening!
